Some play in a weather affected weekend

Allan Glens 2XV had a decisive win against Cumnock’s 2XV, with good play from veteran forward Stevie Hearns, with powerful breaks in the loose by young back Michael Reilly and the game controlled by Andy Hughes at full back. Final score AGRFC 71 – 5 Cumnock.

The U18s had a break from their league campaign, this week, with a friendly against Whitecraigs. The friendly took a serious turn when the game had to be stopped early following an injury to one of the opposition players. Fortunately, the player has made a good recovery. The score at stoppage AGRFC 38 – 0 Whitecraigs.

Their next fixture is an away league game against Waysiders Drumpellier/Glasgow East this coming Saturday.

The autumnal weather impacted on fixtures and training on Sunday, and the anticipated S1/S2 game against Falkirk had to be called off, together with training for the Minis and U15s.

The only fixture to survive the weather was the Glenzie U18 game against Hawks. The teams were evenly matched and the first fifteen minutes was played between the 22m lines with neither side showing any weakness. It was Glenzie who broke the deadlock when Don intercepted and sprinted from the half way line to score between the posts. Hawks upped the intensity immediately and were rewarded when Glenzie, let in an easy score. Hawks added another just before half time to make the score 12-7.
Into the second half, with the wind now behind them, Glenzie were unlucky not to score straight from the kick off, but a lack of composure let the home team off the hook. Hawks were next to score with a superb solo run from their own 5m line, dodging a number tackles on the way. Glenzie eventually hit back through Shanahan who powered over the line following a quick tap from a penalty. 17-12 to the home side, with the clock ticking down and Glenzie going all out for a score. Again their composure let them down and they gave away a penalty on their 22m line which Hawks fired through the post to claim 3 points and take them out of reach. Glenzie finished with an all-out attack but just couldn’t penetrate the resolve of the Hawks defence. Final score Hawks 20 - 12 AGRFC.
Next week there is a chance to redeem themselves, at home, against Strathendrick on Sunday 26th.
Home fixtures next weekend include 1XV v Annan and 2XV v Lenzie, both KO at 3pm.
And finally, you can appreciate that without events to raise funds, we can’t survive as a Rugby Club. We like to team up fundraising with meeting friends and generally having a great time here at the Bearyards. So what can be better than meeting with friends, old and new, enjoying a lovely meal and few(ish) drinks prior to watching our 1XV. Well that’s what we can offer you on Saturday, 1 November when AGRFC v Lenzie. Meet from 1200, with sit down at 1230, and KO at 1400. 2 courses of Anne’s finest food with unlimited wine and fantastic chat. All this for the sum of a mere £25 per person. It would be great to see the place full of old friends and new. Give us a problem to find space for you all and we will rise to that challenge.
