The latest match reports from The Bearyards.

In atrocious conditions Glen’s 1XV made heavy weather, excuse the pun, of beating a Newton Stewart side who turned up looking to score a second victory over Glens this season.

Things seemed to be on track for the home side when they opened the scoring through a penalty by Thomson after only 6 minutes and followed this up four minutes later with a try by Muir from a well practiced move from the front of the lineout. During the remainder of the first half, the visitors more than held their own and came close to scoring on several occasions with only desperate defending by Glen’s keeping them out. Ian Shannon stroked over a penalty opportunity for the his side to open the visiting account making a half time score of 8 : 3.

Soon after the break Reilly scored a super try for Glen’s when he neatly kicked the ball round his opposite number and beat the visiting defence to the touch down.
For the rest of the half play was very even Newton Stewart being mobile enough to cover Glen’s few attempts at creating the overlap.
Five minutes from time Glen’s put the final nail in the coffin when Thomson scored after a period of constant pressure on the visitor’s line. Final Score AGRFC 18 : 3 Newton Stewart.

This week’s 1XV game is against Helensburgh, KO 2pm, with a pre-match buffet brunch at 1pm (pre-booking required).

There was another strong team performance from the U18’s with a 60 : 3 victory against Waysiders/Glasgow East. The opposition turned up with 13 players and therefore in the spirit of fair play it was decided to play 13 against 13. The U18’s came out of the blocks fast with a try within the first minute and notable mentions should go to Connal for an excellent solo effort with the ball being kicked from just outside our 22, the ball was chased to the opposition 22 with a sliding pick up and onward run to under the posts. Also thanks to Easden for letting another forward score for a change with Sargent’s Slaughters chest heaving with pride as Heneghan pushing over for another excellent score. Final Score AGRFC 60 : 3 Waysiders/Glasgow East.

The weather, on Sunday, contributed to the cancellation of a number of the Junior & Mini games and training, including the U15 league game against Greenock.

The next meet for the Mini’s will be at the Christmas Party this Sunday, Training will resume after the New Year.
