The latest match reports from The Bearyards

1st XV - Whilst sitting in 4th spot in the table the scope for improvement was evident in the heavy defeat of 1st XV to West End hosts GHK. However the never give up spirit of Glen's saw 3 tries scored which is the 1st time this has been done to the league leaders this season.

Saturday afternoon at The Bearyards, saw only one game after GHA called off at the last minute for their fixture with Glen's 2XV. The quality of the U18 game in their top of West Scotland League clash was a joy to witness for the large appreciative crowd. Both teams can take credit in producing a great game.

The move of the match was the U18’s now trademark line out Maul, from just inside the 22. It was a joy to watch. Other special mentions to Laverty for an excellent solo effort try and also to Carvalho who stood his ground against Dalziel winger and stopped him in his tracks. Final Score AGRFC 27: 21 Dalziel.

Next Saturday’s game is another home game against WD/Glw East.

It was all hands to the pumps for the U16 Glenzie team, on Sunday, with a combination of injuries and school exams reducing them to 14 players for this fixture.
What provide to be tough half and lots of mistakes from both side saw Glenzie finish the half with a slim lead of 10-7 with tries from Shannahan and Watson. The second half started well for Glenzie with Muir scoring between the posts after a jinking solo run from his own half, and with much improved handling in the second, Auld rounded off the days play with a superb hat trick of tries with Glenzie running out convincing winners 36 – 12. Gutsy performance from start to finish with no substitutes to relieve the pressure.
Next match for Glenzie is away to CarthaQP/Cumnock on 14 December.
It was a disappointing day for the U15's as they made the short trip to Lenzie. Both teams came into the fixture unbeaten in the league which should have been motivation enough for a more than capable team. However, the early forays saw Lenzie on the attack with Glens unable to put together any significant phases of play. Half time saw the home team leading by 3 tries to 2. Hard graft by all the team saw the second half close with a final score of Lenzie 28 : 22 AGRFC.

Turning to the S2 game, the score does not lie. This was a comprehensive defeat, however, there was not a great deal between the teams except tackling. Glens started well and took the lead then forgot how to tackle, time and again the young Glens boys would take the game to their opponents, only to have the ball stripped from them and for the Strathaven backs to run the length of the field unopposed. A hard lesson from which the boys can only learn. Strathaven 10 : 2 AGRFC.

S1s' 36-0 win at Strathaven
Unavailability issues meant the Glen's boys included three guest players from the home club in their starting line-up, and all three played their part in a thoroughly professional 10-try victory against a home side that certainly weren't just there to make up the numbers.
Pick of the players was Keenan who was sensational in an unfamiliar scrum-half role, helping himself to five tries. Moore wasn't far behind, bagging a brace and keeping the back door firmly closed with some sledgehammer tackling.
The Glen's lads barely let Strathaven out of their own half and were working very well as a team. The coaches were proud of a real team effort. Full report in the S1 section of the website.

S1 & S2 take on Hamilton this coming Sunday. KO 12:30pm

Minis

One of the joys of coaching Mini Rugby is the sight of hundreds of kids enjoying playing rugby whilst learning and honing new skills in good weather conditions. This was the case with the Glen's players and coaches being joined by visitors from Strathendrick and Uddingston. With Christmas approaching is was great to get some games in before Santa arrives.
