RBS West Regional Leagues - RBS WEST LEAGUE DIVISION 1
| Irvine | 8 | vs | 8 | Allan Glens |
Irvine 8 - 8 Allan Glen’s
Points shared in a close game
In the sixth minute of play Ross Bryan kicked a penalty to give the home side an encouraging start to the game. This was very much against the run of play as Glens forwards provided a good supply of ball to a fairly fast back division. Glen’s should have put the game in no doubt in the first half when Jamie McKay ran through the opposition from one side of the pitch to the other and was within reach of the try line but the pass to Ciaran Reilly went astray. The Glen’s forwards also camped on the home line for a long period but failed to capitalise against a stout home defence. Indeed it was Irvine who scored when a speculative kick by Bryan gave Nunan the chance to beat the visitors defence to the touch down. Making a half time score of 8 - 0.
After the break it was Irvine who had the best of possession and territory but It was Glen’s who did the scoring. A penalty by Scott Thomson gave the visitors the incentive to strive that bit harder but it was only in the last minute of play when a clean lineout take by Robert McKinstry allowed the ball to be moved swiftly out to the far wing for Jamie McKay to score. It was too far out for Thomson to convert resulting in the teams sharing the match points.
