Development side notch a victory at Duffus Park

Howe of Fife 2nd XV................................24
Alloa RFC 2nd XV....................................29

The Alloa Development side travelled to Cupar with 17 players last Saturday to play Howe of Fife 2ndXV and a last gasp try from veteran Scott Harrison was enough to seal victory.
A mixture of youth and experience was on view as Alloa took the opportunity to hand senior debuts to four of their rising stars who have made the step up from the junior section and one of the youngsters, Euan Clark picked up the man of the match award for an outstanding performance at Centre. The three others, Keenan MacDonald, Lachlan McMaster and Mitchell Guild also had starring roles in a highly entertaining match.
Howe had a very experienced side and made life difficult for Alloa in the close contact areas. However, when the Alloa boys managed to get the game pace up they created a few line breaks. Howe scored the first try after a period of pressure but Alloa were soon on the score sheet after they got the ball out wide to Jamie Monteith who ran hard to score in the corner. Howe scored another try before Jamie Monteith doubled his account after a fine break by Euan Clark and this was soon followed with another when Martin McKenzie finished off a trademark mazy run to score with Mitchell Guild kicking the conversion. The home team rallied once again and scored just before the half time whistle to make the half time score 19 - 17 in their favour.
The second half followed the same pattern as the first and once again it was Martin McKenzie who scarpered away after a period of phase play to score under the posts. Mitchell Guild again kicked the conversion. In a tense last quarter Howe scored to make it 24 apiece, but Alloa had more than their fair share of the possession in this period and after a good period of pressure, Scott Harrison score wide out to give the Alloa boys the lead and ultimately the deserved victory.
