Alloa second string made a great day for the club winning their first match of the season against a Falkirk side who had scored over eighty points against them back in September. Brilliantly led by James Shaw Alloa raced into a two try lead thanks to a kick and chase effort from Rab Wallace and great pace from fellow centre Marc Murray. Lee Cairney kicked one conversion and boomed over a penalty from 40 metres to keep Alloa ahead as Falkirk hit back with a try to make the half-time score 15-5.
Falkirk stepped up the pressure in the early stages of the second half with a Cairney penalty barely countering two quickfire tries for the visitors which narrowed the deficit to a single point. Alloa kicked on again scoring a try out wide via Kirk Murray which directly resulted in the Falkirk wing being yellow carded for disputing the score. Marc Murray made sure of the result with a second try which produced a try scoring bonus point. Lee Cairney’s conversion and final penalty gave his side an outstanding victory.
An outstanding team effort made the nomination of man of the match extremely difficult however scrum half Davis Jess received the award following a tremendous display in attack and defence.
Congratulations go to everyone involved this season as it would have been easy for the heads to go down earlier in the season when results were going against them. But everyone has stuck together and as the season has progressed so has the team and ultimately the results have too!
This Saturday the 2's continue their season away to Montrose.
