Match report V Madras
Youngsters developing well with 1st XV.
For the second time in two weeks, the young Alloa side lost out on the points to teams above them in the league.
The visitors got off to a slow start and took some time to settle into the match, but unfortunately by the time that they did, they found themselves 15 points down to a first half penalty and 2 converted scores either side of the half time whistle.
Despite the deficit, Alloa refused to buckle and continued to try and battle their way back into the match. An excellent Gary Taylor break and dummy from the half way line resulted in the big No8 scorching over out wide for an unconverted score, before being dealt another blow when the home side immediately went up the park and scored one of their own from a nice break by their big, pacy winger, who was a danger all afternoon.
The ebb and flow of the match continued when once again Alan Keir pegged back a try from a lovely chip over the defence, only for the home side to regain their lead with a try of their own.
Man of the Match, Michael Doig made for an interesting last 10 minutes when he charged his way over from a quick tap penalty to reduce the arrears to 10 points, but with only minutes remaining the home side sealed victory with a late penalty.
This really is a young, developing, Alloa side that despite recent defeats are doing themselves and the club proud with their commitment and attitude. Scott McLellan is one such youngster who was making his first senior appearance and proved that he really is one for the future with an excellent display in the forwards.
Alloa are also away from home this weekend when they make the short trip to Kinross. Please note the new kick off time of 2pm.
