Alloa started 2013 in great style with a bonus point victory at The King George V playing fields. Playing their usual style of expansive rugby, Alloa scored an early try when skipper James Dawson forced his way over from close in. Brian ireland was next on the score sheet when he shrugged off some luck lustre tackling from a quickly taken tap penalty. Alan Keir added both conversions including one from the touchline. Keir was soon back in action bursting into the line and outstripping the home defence as Alloa threatened to run away with the match. Kinross stemmed the tide briefly with a converted try as the Alloa defence fell off a few tackles however an Alan Keir penalty gave his side a healthy 22-7 half-time lead.
The game was then destined to be effectively finished as a contest through two incidents early in the second half. A home forward was red carded for foul play and Alloa quickly took advantage. Tam McGowan made the initial surge to the line and Donald Stewart then drove the ball over to secure the bonus point. Keir was again successful with the conversion.
The game then largely lost shape with Alloa feeling they had completed the target for the day and Kinross battling away with their reduced numbers. Alloa had several chances to increase their lead however Kinross did put some pressure on during the final quarter which saw Alloa wing Stevie Scott yellow carded near the end for preventing release. The game ended with Kinross forcing their way over for a second converted try.
This Saturday Alloa have a home match against Glenrothes – kick-off 2pm.
