Match report V Carnoustie
Alloa complete courageous Carnoustie comeback
Having lost on all four of their previous league visits to Shanwell Road, a much changed Alloa side again looked down the barrel trailing 22-10 at the break. However, a brave second half performance full of spirit and never say die attitude saw them come back and score an important victory.
Carnoustie came flying out the traps scoring two tries early doors. However, a nicely weighted cross kick by Brian ireland saw Daniel Murrell dot down in the corner. However, Alloa fell off tackles badly to allow the home side to register a third try. The cross-kick tactic worked again when this time Stevie Skelton put one in the corner and Alan Keir won the race for the touchdown. The last word of the half came via a penalty for the home club.
Arguably the game changed on a yellow card for a home forward for foul play and Alloa took advantage. The outstanding Gary Taylor, who was skipper for the day, broke a couple of tackles then stepped the full back for a superb individual try. Alan Keir slotted the conversion. There was no denying Alloa now and a neat offload by Stevie Skelton sent Michael Doig crashing through the Carnoustie defence for a fourth try which also secured a bonus point. Alan Keir’s conversion gave Alloa the lead for the first time. There was some frantic, heart-stopping defending to be done before full time. However, Alloa held out for an outstanding victory.
The 1st xv travel to Kinross this Saturday for their final league match of 2012. The 2nd xv who lost their home match against Stobswell to a frozen pitch have still to have this weekend’s fixture confirmed . Both kick-offs will be 2pm.
