Alnmouth and Lesbury Under 13’s travelled south on a glorious sunny Sunday morning to play South Northumberland Reds at Gosforth. The home team won the toss and elected to bat. Some initial tight bowling by George Lindley, Tom Harrop and Cameron Batey kept the batsmen under pressure although any loose or short deliveries were punished with boundaries. The breakthroughs came when Nick Robertson dismissed both the openers. Cameron Thorpe then followed up the good work with 2 wickets for 11 runs included a well-timed catch by Lindley. Alnmouth then turned to Oliver Tulip with his spin bowling and he produced a magical spell taking 4 wickets for only 8 runs as South Northumberland collapsed from 65-4 to 71 for 8, two of the wickets being sharp stumping’s from Archie Elder. It was difficult to keep Tulip out of the action as he added to his bowling with a run out and an excellent catch off the bowling of Harrop, as South Northumberland finished on a below par 73 all out. On the hot morning, the Alnmouth boys were good in the field, with Lukas Robinson, Dan Philips, Alex Tait and Harry Milham all making good contributions.
Alnmouth opened their innings with George Lindley and Archie Elder and they made a steady start but with the score on 17 Lindley was smartly caught behind. Nick Robertson came in and added 38 runs with Elder, before he fell to a good catch for 23 which included five 4’s. Following the loss of 2 more quick wickets, Cameron Batey joined Elder and together they saw the team home to a six wicket victory with almost 4 overs to spare. Elder finished with a patient 18 not out and Batey 8 not out. Overall a good team performance and a well-deserved victory, set up by the bowlers and in particular, young Tulip.
