Alnmouth Argyle travelled away to the Recreation Ground to meet Felton FC and the match almost never started with the official taking a careful examination of the semi-frozen pitch before judging it suitable to play on but advising both teams that he would monitor the conditions closely.
In the opening period both side tentatively tip-toed over the pitch as everyone established the playability of the surface underfoot. It was Felton who got into their stride quickest and several times they threaten both down their left flank and also with lofted balls through the middle.
Argyle failed to heed the warning signs and with 25 minutes on the clock the home side had a two goal advantage. To the away sides credit they battled and within five minutes Brett Rogerson
registered to bring the deficit down to a single goal. Argyle battled on and the teams went in with the scoreline at 2-1 to the home side.
The second half saw both sides come out unchanged and with the surface now softening in the morning sun the play began to open up as both sides became more adventurous. Unfortunately for Alnmouth they conceded an early goal and despite rallying for the next few minutes to string a few attacks of their own it was soon very much the home side making all the forward play.
Another goal midway in the second half made it 4-1 and from their Argyle capitulated as Felton simply poured through the midfield and the hapless Alnmouth defence fought a losing battle and by full time the scoreline had increased to 7-1.
