On Sunday our U15’s joined forces with our friends from Novos to make up a full squad and played some very committed games against WBR, Morpeth and Tynedale on a fresh sunny day with very muddy conditions under foot. We took the opportunity to experiment with some different positions and develop experience of different roles. Our first game was against WBR who defended well but our relentless pressure on their line proved too much in the end.

Next we went up against Morpeth, who have been dominant against all local opposition this season. In a very close contest with huge tackles going in, our Alnwick Novos pack once again proved to be a good combination as we put huge pressure on at scrum time. We tackled like lions in the mud and it was only a breakaway try that gave Morpeth the 1-0 win.

Finally we took on a Tynedale comp team with a selection of Morpeth and Rockcliff players. Another very close contest, against a bit of an all stars line up packed with county players. We took them on up front and our backs stretched defence as they struggled for grip in the difficult conditions. We had line outs, many scrums and one of the longest driving mauls I have seen which was all good practice of every part of the game. A single break away try was the difference in the end as we narrowly lost 1-0.

The assembled parents and coaches were thrilled at the very entertaining rugby on show. No lack of commitment and skill. The gap is closing with the two leading experienced Northumberland teams!
