On thursday night we travelled the short distance over to Bredbury to play AFC, as we were on route the heavens opened and i was a little concerned the pitch might be waterlogged but apart from one goalmouth which was muddy the game went ahead on what must be the smallest pitch in Stockport and which suits AFC's style of football down to the ground.
The game opened brightly for Altrincham as we must have had 80% of the open play and then disaster struck with AFC's strikers first shot at goal catching Rosie and the defence unawares and it nestling in the bottom corner, well now it was time for the girls to show us their mettle and they responded well with our football and from a corner from Faye which landed perfectley on Maya's left foot for her to volley in followed by a fine Hannah strike on 40mins for us to take the lead.
Half time 2-1
The second half started as brightly as the first and until the official got a blatant (full couple of yards) decision wrong for AFC to equalise we looked comfortable, unfortunatly the football that followed and some "decisions" just made the game end in a farce and for some people to say we were "blown away" are so wide of the mark its untrue, Having said all that i must offer my congratulations to the players of AFC for reaching their first ever cup final.
Up the ALTY..!
