1XV back in form with a 41-9 win away at St. Benedicts

& a much need shot of confidence after last weeks result

AK bounced back this week after a disappointing result last week to take 5 points away on the long road trip to St Benedicts.
AK started strong, the pack carrying hard and giving the backs the platform to run their patterns, this was rewarded when AK's Kashley Watkins crashed over leaving several Benedicts players in his wake. Dave Coleman nudged the extras 7-0 to AK. Almost from the kick off an AK penalty gave Benedicts the opportunity to take 3 points and get on the board. AK rallied together with strong carries and support play to release Matt Moss to make a 55m break to touch down under the Benedict's sticks. At 14-3 another 3 points was gladly taken by Benedicts from repeated penalties from AK, a recurring theme that seemed to plague both teams throughout the match. With the score at 14-6 and with 20 mins to go until halftime, AK crossed again with some good play from the AK pack releasing Joe Kelly to cross in the corner, Coleman missed the extras narrowly meaning 19-6. The game was now all AK, hard lines and hard work from all giving Coleman the chance to put AK into the corner for AK's forwards to catch and drive over the line, Alex Faupel flopping over the whitewash 24-6. The game fizzled out as both teams appeared to be looking towards halftime, St Benedicts had another shot at 3 points from another penalty resulting in the Halftime score being 24-9.

AK resumed play as they'd started for the first 30 minutes, on the front foot and doing their best to get the game buried as soon as possible. The game started to open up with quick rugby on a wet and long grassed pitch, AK went for the jugular scoring two quick tries from James Coulson and George Kelly leaving AK 34-9 up in a game that was pretty much over with 10 to go. AK had one more opportunity that Matt Moss gladly accepted, dotting down to move AK further in front at 41-9, with 5 points in the bag AK aim to continue a decent start to a long season.
AK welcome Stockport RUFC to Stelfox next on Sat 23rd Sept 3pm

It’s our final Kids First Champion for the season! David ‘Flats’ Flatman and two special guests surprise Ellingham & Ringwood RFC.
