Rearranged fixture proves successful for AK1XV

after fog & frozen pitch prevented a Dec clash...February reaps just rewards!!

AK1XV 22 - Wilmslow 1XV 12
AK1XV travelled to Wilmslow away on Saturday 24th February, to complete the rearranged fixture which had been correctly called off due to a fog bound & frozen pitch last December.
AK were determined to redress the grief directed at them from the Wilmslow set up and came out looking to get back on track after their gut wrenching last minute defeat away at Northwich the previous weekend.
AK were dominant from the outset, pushing Wilmslow back into their own half for the majority of the half, Wilmslow not able to break down a strong and resolute AK defence.
Andrew Frost gaining the early advantage with a great try, converted by the in form and accurate Dave Coleman, AK rightfully leading 7-0.
Just before half time and after a rare venture into AK territory, Wilmslow bagged themselves a try, conversion unsuccessful.
Half time 7-5 to AK
2nd half AK continued in a similar vein, the visitors proving to be just too strong on the day for a young looking Wilmslow side, with their coach desperately trying to inject some much needed grit into his team, after AK had manufactured another soul destroying try for John Coulson from a blistering run, again converted by Coleman, who himself nabbed a great try after consistent and unrelenting pressure from the AK pack. AK were determined to leave today with a crucial win as they continue their fight to stay in the North One West league.
The Wilmslow pep talk must have had some impact, albeit briefly, as the home side picked up the pace and soon after secured themselves some kudos with a converted try, scores now 19-12.
Truth be told, there was just no coming back for Wilmslow, AK proving on the day to be the stronger team, Coleman sealing the win and adding further insult to injury with a penalty kick to take the game out of Wilmslow's reach final score 22-12 to AK.
A crucial and much deserved win for the Timperley based club.
Next week, a tough encounter beckons for AK1XV as they host Burnage to Stelfox Ave
2XV away to Widnes, 3XV are also away to Glossop
All matches back to 3pm kick off.
