2XV out of the Cup losing to Broughton Park 14-34
attention now returns to league action vs Fylde on 15th Dec
Altrincham Kersal 2XV 14-34 Broughton Park 2XV
On Saturday Kersal 2XV played their second game of the season against Broughton Park 2XV and second cup game, knowing they would need a win to stay in the competition.
A slow start saw Kersal concede 3 early tries and Kersal rallied together under the posts to get things going again. After building pressure with possession, winger Dan Oliver crossed on the right wing for his second try in 2 games thanks to space created by full-back Jack Snoddy and a sublime kick from the touchline from Jordan Roberts closed the margin to 7-17. On the stroke of half-time the visitors found themselves down to 14 men due to a cynical penalty defending more waves of Kersal attacking rugby in their 22. They took advantage of that immediately as Sean Clayton crossed for a try underneath the posts to take the half-time score to 14-17.
The second half saw Kersal struggle to maintain possession and played most of the half in their own half. The half was scoreless for a long time and it was only late on as Kersal were chasing the win when Broughton Park seized their chances and the match finished 14-34.
Tries: Dan Oliver, Sean Clayton
Conversion: Jordan Roberts (x2)
With Kersal out of the cup, they now have the league to solely focus on, and the next fixture for the 2XV is on the 15th December, which sees them travel away to Fylde in their last game before the Christmas break.
