Great teamwork wins the day
The result a good reflection of hard work to achieve domination
Altrincham Kersal RFC 2s were home to Aldwinians looking to gain revenge for a defeat earlier in the season with a depleted team. Great teamwork from forwards and backs, together with hard work, led to a result of 48-14 which truly reflects domination on the day. Good communication throughout the match meant that all players always knew their roles in trying to work their way up the pitch into opposition territory. Forwards hunted in groups to progress with the ball from breakdowns and always pass the gain line. At the right time, the enthusiastic backs were brought into the attack to roll out their training ground moves, then for ball to be regained from setting up the next phase. The first score came from this strategy with prop Ali Berryman crossing the try line. The second score was sublime, created by fly half Doug Whyley with a pass to inside centre then wrapping around to collect again and feed his winger on left, Jack Snoddy, with space to beat his man. Danny Quinn on the other wing finished off another move, but then lack of concentration led to a rare entry by the opposition towards the Kersal try line. The home side let themselves down when defending from a scrum to allow a runner to beat tackles and score, albeit still in the driving seat at 17-7 up. An appropriate team discussion at half time led to a response direct from the kick off and renewed control of the game, James Coulson carrying ball from about the half way line and just too fast for the away side. And so it continued. Captain on the day, second row Matt Hassard burst through the opposition defence with power to gain more points for the forwards. Outside centre Ben Harris running a great line was fed a pop pass from the fly half after a dummy run from the inside centre. And after more relaxation and an opposition foray to gain points, Kersal finished it off with more tries from Snoddy and Coulson leaving Aldwinians looking very tired and deflated, and Kersal spectators delighted with the entertainment.
