AK2's turn up the heat at Didsbury Toc H
20 minute water breaks a treasured commodity!
The sun was baking down in Didsbury as Kersal 2nd XV faced their opposition in what turned out to be a tightly fought contest. After a positive start for Kersal with early pressure in the Didsbury 22, Sam Gallimore slotted an early penalty to take Kersal 3-0 up. Handling errors and lapse tackling gifted Didsbury their first half tries. However the Kersal players showed their character in not letting this effect their own game plan, going on to score a try of their own in the 1st half as well. This came from Ethan Kennedy after some good link up play between both forwards and backs in the build-up. Kersal went into the half-time break narrowly behind, but still very much in the game.
With the sun still beating down, the Kersal forwards continued to stamp their authority on the set-pieces in the second half. Further graft and determination gave Kersal the platform to build pressure and turn the pressure into points. A penalty from Sam Gallimore and a tries from Dan Quinn and Jack Snoddy pushed Kersal ahead as the score had been going to and fro. Didsbury caught the Kersal defense napping as offloads lead to their 3rd try, but the game was not over yet. The defensive determination from all players at the end proved vital, as putting their bodies on the line Kersal players held out Didsbury attacks and then took control of play at the end as full-time crept closer. The game suitably, after proving key in giving the backs a platform to attack throughout the game, finished with winning a scrum after which the ball was kicked off the pitch with the sound of the full-time whistle and cheers from the Kersal contingent.
Credit goes to both teams after a tight game, played in good spirit in the tricky conditions. The win continues cements the team's position in the top 4 of the league and continues their unbeaten month as they push for a strong finish to the season, finishing with a 3rd vs 4th place clash away at Glossop next weekend to finish off their season.
