2XV's top of the table clash ends in narrow defeat
as Aldwinians take the points from a finely balanced match.
Altrincham Kersal 2XV 21-30 Aldwinians 2XV
Altrincham Kersal 2nd XV kicked off 2018 with a home fixture against Aldwinians 2nd XV – two teams vying for position at the the top of the table.
Early exchanges saw Aldwinians score the first points of the game, and it wasn’t long before Kersal responded with points of their own after a solid scrum in the opposition 22 provided the platform for a well worked try by the backs, finished off by fly-half Jack Braithwaite. Kersal’s attacking pressure continued, even after an unfortunate reshuffle in the pack after Craig Berryman was forced off with a knee injury.
Half-time saw the score finely balanced with both teams having everything to fight for. Prolific try scorer Jack Snoddy managed to cross the whitewash again, as both teams exchanged scores in the second half. With Kersal pressuring in the Aldwinians half, a lapse in Kersal concentration saw Aldwinians score a breakaway try to extend their lead to the widest margin there had been all game. Despite late Kersal pressure, the score stayed as it would finish and Aldwinians managed to close out the game for the win.
Tries: Jack Braithwaite, Jack Snoddy (x2)
Pen: Jack Braithwaite (x2)
