Loss for AK 2XV away at Warrington
losing 34-7 on Sat 27th October
Warrington 2XV 34-7 Altrincham Kersal 2XV
Saturday saw a a trip away to Warrington for Kersal 2XV as they battled against their 2nd team who were performing well in the league.
After last week's slow start, Kersal started the match with good intensity. A solid scrum gave the backs a good platform to attack and it was Kersal that went over for the game's first score, as fly-half and captain Pete Kilburn powered over the tryline with Jordan Roberts converting to take the visitors 7-0 up. The first-half continued in a competitive manner, as both teams cancelled each other out, but it was Warrington that edged the half on the scoreboard going 12-7 up into the break.
In the second-half, playing against the wind, Kersal began well defending and conceding only one try out wide, which took the score to 17-7, still within striking distance of a comeback. At one point down to 14 men due to a yellow card, Kersal kept waves of attack out. It was only later on in the second half that Kersal failed to stay in touch with the opposition, with Kersal failing to capitalise on their own opportunities and Warrington continuing powerful running and exploiting the defense out wide. The final score after some scores late on saw the match finish 34-7 to the home side.
Tries: Pete Kilburn
Conversions: Jordan Roberts
Next Saturday sees Kersal 2nd XV return to Stelfox Avenue to play Liverpool University Veterinarians, where the team will be determined to return to winning ways.
