Sponsorship & Facilities Hire - Sponsorhips 2012/13

Alvechurch Football Club are a club with a long and proud history. The present club was formed in 1929 and moved to its present ground at Lye Meadow, Alvechurch, in 1957. The club became one of the most famous in non league when it reached the FA Amateur Cup semi-final in 1965 and went into the Guinness Book of Records in 1971/72 for the longest FA Cup tie in history, after an 11 hour, 6 match marathon, v Oxford City, eventually saw them make the 1st round proper. In 1973/74 Alvechurch made the 3rd proper of the FA Cup, going down 4-2 at Bradford City. In 1982/83 Alvechurch gained promotion to the Southern League Premier Division, which was, at the time, was the highest level outside the football league.
Following the demise of benefactor Philip Palmer and president Alan Wiseman, the club began a gradual decline, eventually resulting in club closure in 1993. The club was resurrected in 1994 and has since struggled to make its mark in present day non league football. However, in 2003, the club won the league and cup double and gained promotion to the Midland Football Alliance, which is at Level 5 in the non league pyramid (where the Blue Square Bet Conference Premier is at Level 1). Today, the clubs first team still competes at this level, but is looking to progress up the non league pyramid and bring back the glory days to Lye Meadow. As well as our first team, we have an under 18 youth team and have recently affiliated with Alvechurch Lions, that run children’s teams from under 7’s to under 16’s.

Alvechurch are proud of the ex players that have represented the club over the years. The most famous, being Alan Smith, ex Leicester, Arsenal and England, who is now a Sky TV pundit. Other players who have represented Alvechurch, then gone on to represent their country are David Kelly (Walsall, West Ham, Leicester, Newcastle etc), and Sean O’Driscoll (Fulham, Bournmouth), who both represented the Republic of Ireland. Many more have gone on to play for league clubs. To name but a few, Steve Cotterill (Wimbledon), Andy Comyn (Aston Villa), Dean Sturridge (Derby County), Colin Brazier (Wolves).

Our mission is to promote football in the local community and our aim is to help develop and nurture ‘future’ stars, that hopefully, may go on to play for league clubs and possibly even represent their country. You can help by supporting the club and providing the much needed sponsorship, that can help us develop the infrastructure and facilities at the club that will help us achieve our goals.
