We're stuck in the worst time of year for Grassroots football, and after a fairly mild December, the freeze is well and truly here

It seems the weather knows when its the weekend and snow, rain and ice always hit just days before games are due to be played.

Our groundsmen work right through the winter and whilst the grass doesn't need cutting, the pitches are repaired and remarked each week (and it's frustrating for them when the rain or snow comes along and wipes out all of the hard work).

We try our best to get games played whenever we can, so leave a decision as late as possible on whether to close the pitches. We know its frustrating when you are waiting to find out if matches can be played, but just 24 hours can make a huge difference to the conditions and the pitches.

Make sure your manager has you latest contact number - and if you are playing in winter, ensure players have layers on, and gloves if applicable - plus a warm coat for any time spent at the side of the pitch!

A pitch inspection will take place on Saturday morning.
