The West Lancashire Football League - Division 1
| Ambleside United | 2 | vs | 2 | Garstang |
HIGHLY COMPETITIVE MATCH ENDS 2 - 2
A match that Ambleside were looking forward too when the fixtures were announced proved to be a highly competitive and entertaining game with both teams playing attractive football which ended fairly in a 2 - 2 draw.
Ambleside had their 3rd different goalkeeper in 4 matches and Garstang had Damien Clifton in goals who started last season at Ambleside.
Play was fairly equal in the early exchanges although it took an excellent save from Clifton to prevent a header from Shaun Gardner going into the top corner of the net.
After 25 minutes Ambleside took the lead when a cross from Maison Mcgeechan found Shaun Gardner who controlled the ball well before evading 2 defenders and slotting the ball home.
The lead did not last long as when losing the ball in their own half Garstang attacked down their left and the ball was played in by Stone to Gierke who headed home the equaliser.
A chance to take the lead before the interval fell to both teams with Michael Barron going close for Ambleside and Draycott shooting wide for Garstang.
The 2nd half continued as in the 1st with both teams playing well and continuing to attack.
Clifton in the Garstang goals made another fine save when he managed to get a hand to a shot from Michael Barron and it catapulted against the crossbar and was eventually cleared.
At the other end Fawcett had a good shot go just wide and Tom Newton made an excellent save from a shot by Stone.
With 10 minutes to go Ambleside regained the lead. Mike Rushton won the ball - played it down the line to Shaun Gardner and Shaun laid on a perfect pass to Michael Barron at the back post for Michael to slot home.
Garstang pressed hard for an equaliser and were rewarded when Draycott shot hit the back of the net.
Although only drawing it was by far the best team performance that Ambleside have played this season and it was against a team that was 2 division higher last season.
