Winning feels good
Confident win pleases captain
Ambleside made the trip to Trimpell for their first game of the season with captain Oli asking for people to make it there early so they could pick up a bat and look at a red ball as nobody had bothered with winter nets. As the warm up got going the team realised that red balls were hard and getting anywhere early just gave you more time to moan about how long cricket takes but we were keen and raring to go, bowling first. The aging B.Wieman, who must be fast approaching 40 by the looks of him, opened the bowling with new recruit Jake the Snake Roberts. A fine innings by Halstead helped Trimpell to 155 all out with Oli, Barney and Jacob taking wickets. It was great to see youngster Ben taking his first 1st team wicket, well done young man. 'Tea' was eaten, ermm, was lovely, then Ambleside set about knocking off the runs quickly and efficiently. However, at 26 for 4 after 10 overs and with the best bat in the league out for 20 Trimpell must have been thinking game over, early shower and joining in the cowboy and cowgirl party! But....Ambleside have been talking about not being a one man team and Johnson and Southworth (from now on referred to as 'Mouth') rebuilt taking the score past 100. Johnson was out for 60 still leaving 50 to get which Gaz and 'Mouth' calmly did with Gaz just falling before the final runs came. A fine start for Ambleside with the middle order showing that they may not lie down and be humiliated this season.
MOM - Johnson, for his 60 quick runs, just my opinion though.
