Barney is the star of the show
Ambleside were asked to bat first on a very wet and soft wicket and found themselves struggling to score until Barney (28) and Woody (22*) came together to build a wonderful partnership. With Barney spending most of the season supporting others it was great to see him take a more staring role. At the interval Ambleside had made 114, clearly a below par score but definitely something to bowl at. Netherfield were happy to see Dan - I'm averaging 42 this season you know but only scored 42 runs - Southworth bowled for just one! After tea Ambleside took early wickets leaving Netherfield on 40-4 but that slowly rose to 77-4 making them firm favourites for an upset win. The reintroduction of Barney swung the game though and 77-4 quickly became 90-9, a huge capitulation. Some poor catching and wayward throwing was now forgotten as Ambleside needed just one wicket for a victory which was looking unlikely just 20 minutes earlier. A dreadful runout for Netherfield with 'The Locksmith' finally finding the right key flicking the bails off with both batsmen at the same end gave Ambleside the win and the title, well played lads, never give up!
Player of the match - Barney 'fluffer' Wileman. 4 wickets, 28 runs and he may have hit a six I can't remember - just my opinion though.
