The Season is Properly Back! - Tenby Programme Notes

The season starts properly tomorrow and the first to visit Cwmamman Park in Division One West is Tenby United RFC...

It feels quite good writing that the Amman United are now in League 1, an incredible achievement when you think a few years ago we were down in League 4, and we haven’t got this far in a dodgy way like some League 6 teams did, finding themselves playing up in League 3 today after the controversial WRU restructuring. There are some very good teams in this league, but nothing the Amman United cannot cope with if the squad stays fit and healthy.

First up for us are the Seasiders, Tenby United. They finished last season as runners-up in Division Three West and have leapfrogged League Two to League One, again, as with us, I don’t think they will be out of their depth in the league we have ended up in. They came second to Gorseinon in that league after avoiding defeat in 20 out of 22 league games, winning 17 and drawing 3, an impressive record.

The last time they visited was on the 16th February 2013, a game which the Amman won by 33 points to 10. Try-scorers for us that day were Jonny Bevan, Dean, Sean Mangan, Rhys T and Cranky. As flattering as that score might seem, Tenby had one over on us that year as they were the only team to beat the Amman United in that season after we won 21 out of 22 games. If we hadn’t lost away there early in September then this bunch of players would have been invited to the reunion held in the club recently for the early 70’s and 90’s teams who went through their seasons unbeaten. One win away from being part of this legendary group of ‘Amman Invincibles’. Good luck to Tenby today and we won’t hold any grudges for that, well the referee hopes so anyway.

Today sees the return of the much missed Youth who will be playing their first league game away at Llandeilo, the Quins, who lost to Pantyffynnon last weekend have had their game cancelled by Kidwelly. We welcome some new faces in Steffan Charles and Daryl John who have joined us over the summer and Jamie Davies who is duelling between us and Neath. All three will add something new and different to the squad. The only outgoing player, apart from Karl W is Alfie who is back earning the dollar in Cwm Vegas.

Hopefully the boys can pull out a performance today after some impressive pre-season stuff against Llandovery and a win against Morriston, albeit a rusty one, last week. Good luck to new skipper Gav Nog and the boys.
