This weekend, Anselmians travel to Glossop in the Peak District.
After last weekend’s encouraging display against Broughton Park, they will travel with renewed optimism secure in the belief that they are finally coming together as a potent attacking force that can also defend their line. To score five tries against a side like Broughton Park and to have a realistic chance of winning the game, they must now believe they can finish the season strongly.
They may not get a better chance than at Glossop. Notwithstanding the fact that we were overwhelmed by Glossop in “Black October” when we were beaten 13-53, recent form suggest a far closer game.
Giving its location, Glossop suffer more than most clubs from the bad weather. Their pitch is notoriously wet. They have only played three away games in 2017, losing last week at Douglas 20-0, conceding 24-29 at Liverpool St. Helens and being on the wrong end of 32-19 at Broughton Park in January.
All home fixtures have been postponed and their last home fixture was a comprehensive dismantling of Wigan 58-3 way back on December 17th.
It is not unreasonable to expect a resurgent Anselmian side to test an underplayed Glossop XV on the Hargate Hill pitch which neither side knows very well!
Regardless of the result, we will be guaranteed a warm welcome in this most traditional of rugby clubs.
