Thorne 3-1 Appleby Frodingham
Disappointing away defeat
Frod had 3 postponements in the last fortnight, and did it show in the early exchanges, where they were sloppy all over the park. Thorne on the other hand started very brightly and put Frod on the back foot. With this trend continuing, it was perhaps a surprise to see Frod take the lead on 15 minutes from a Stu Longbone 20 yard strike which gave the keep no chance. Frod held the lead for 15 further minutes, but Thorne were the team showing the more intent, and equalised on 30 mins after indecisive defending from Frod.
Thorne continued to force the game, and foods management were glad to see half time
Half time 1-1
The second half continued in the same pattern as the first, and on 50 minutes a sloppy back headed pass was siezed on by a Thorne striker and he finished with a good strike. Things got even worse for the visitors on 55 minutes, when a ball in the box (taking an eternity to come down) was stroke on the volley into the top corner, with the Frod defence once again spectating.
Frod now started to have more of the ball as Thorne conceded territory and were settling for game management. This changed slightly when they had a player sent off for a second bookable offence. Frod had changed their shape to a 343 and were pushing on for the first time in the game, but to be fair to Thorne, they looked more than comfortable dealing with the pressure.
On 75 minutes spat in the middle of the park saw Robin Woodforth receive his second yellow card, and was dismissed along with the Thorne player he clashed with. This saw a 10V9 game in Frods favour, but Thorne held on to deserve all the points
Full time 3-1
