A sunny afternoon with a cold wind at Laighdykes saw Winton able to put out a strong team for the 3rd game in a row and they controlled the first half with some nice football. They took the lead early in the first half when David Martin chased a long ball about 20 yards out on the left touchline got his head to the ball and it somehow beat the keeper and rolled into the net!

Despite continued pressure for the rest of the first half and the beginning of the second half Winton couldn't get a second. Crosshouse had been creating chances and began to come back into the game. They equalised about half way through the second half.

That seemed to waken the Rovers up and they took control of the game scoring 3 very good goals from David Martin, Stevie Campbell and James Maxwell. For the first Steven Gregory did well on the left to cut in and feed the ball to David Martin who despite a block from a defender still forced the ball in from about 10 yards. For the second the impressive David Watterson's run at the defence saw him square the ball to sub Stevie Campbell who fired home from about 12 yards. For the fourth goal winger James Maxwell picked up the ball out on the right and ran into the box before shooting low past the keeper.

Once again the two full backs, Reece Campbell and James McGregor were impressive as was centre - half Keiran Donohoe. David Watterston looked more at home in midfield than when I saw him playing at full back the last time. Up front Darren Sillars was injured early in the first half and was replaced by Stevie Campbell but tall centre forward David Martin impressed. The two wide players James Maxwell and Steven Gregory both had good games playing major parts in the three quick goals.

This was a good end to the season which will probably see Winton finish 4th in their first season once the problems caused by Glenafton folding are resolved. They will also end as one of the highest scoring teams in the league. It might have been an even better season had injuries and unavailability of key players towards the end of the season not forced Ian Adamson to play some games with only 11 players with some of those 11 being trialists at times. He has identified players he wants to bring in and probably these include some of the trialists. One problem the team does face is that some players, including the McGregor twins are over - age next season.

AWR - Justin Robertson, Reece Campbell, James McGregor, Andrew Adamson, Keiran Donohoe, David Watterson, James Maxwell, Johhny Murphy (Trialist), David Martin, Darren Sillars and Steven Gregory.
