The 1st XV are not in action this Saturday for the second week in a row, but preparations are well under way for the visit of Sligo to Hamilton Park, next Saturday.

This match will see Ards play newly promoted Sligo who have made an impressive start to the season, on their return to the Senior ranks. They were the Junior League and Cup winners in Connaght last year and have brought their ability and team spirit with them to make the transition to Senior rugby seamless. They are a progressive Club with a thriving youth section and a Ladies team. Although playing away from home Sligo will go into the league match with Ards as clear favourites having won two of their last three AL matches, with a narrow defeat by only two points against Rainey in their last outing.

By contrast, Ards have had a difficult season to date, blighted by a series of long term injuries, in vital positions. Stuart Paul, Stephen Cole and David Armstrong, in the backline are all out for the remainder of the season, whilst centre, Taylor Ferguson continues to work his way back to fitness from a troublesome injury. Injuries to front row players, Matty Weir, Michael McMenamin and Matt Busby and the retirement of lock forward Ken Heaslip, have disrupted the fluency of the pack. Nevertheless, Coach Mervyn Tweed remains upbeat, with good numbers at training as he builds on the excellent team spirit in his young squad. The outcome of this match will have a considerable influence on the remainder of the season and Ards are looking for the full backing of their loyal supporters as they embark on the second half of the season.
