Eagles hit for Eight on the road....

EMCL Saturday 4th August 2018 3pm

A new season and a new ground for many of the travelling Eagles fans as the EMCL season kicks off in glorious sunshine and very hot conditions.

A forty odd mile round trip over to Balderton, Newark to visit one of the new teams in the League this season, Newark Flowserve, the NSL League and Senior Cup double winners from 2017-2018.

Flowserve were quickly into their stride and went in front from a free kick in the second minute from Danny Meadows. Meadows scored again a minute later and an unfortunate own goal added to their score in the eleventh minute putting them 3-0 up.
For all their effort Arnold just couldn’t get started but managed to hang on until half time without any more scoring.

Solomon Miller added a fourth on fifty-eight minutes and as the game moved into the last fifteen the floodgates opened.
Sam Agar added a sixth on seventy-seven minutes and the Daniel Meadows added two more on eighty-three and eighty-five minutes. Mustapha John completed the scoring heading in the eighth with two minutes to go.

To be fair Newark had come into the season on the back of a very successful season in the NSL last term and with the addition of a couple of experienced players have managed to build on that.
Arnold on the other hand had a torrid time last season and are still suffering the effects of the extended season, change in Management, recruiting a fresh side and to cap it all a very disrupted pre-season.

Both sides will have learnt something today. Arnold will have to seriously up their game from now on. Newark on the other hand probably won’t get an easier match this season but, having said that, I saw them at Basford last season in the NSL Sen Cup Final and tipped them then to do well this season…
