Under 11's - Ashton v Rochdale Mayfield
The Unlucky 13
The first game back after the summer break and there wasn’t much of summer about it as we are about to encounter a tough game against Rochdale on a wet damp Bear Park.
Before the game had even started we lost Josh Denton due to an injury in the warm up which was a massive blow to the team.
The game got under way and from the start you could see this would be an even contest with both defences cancelling each other out with some storming tackles and well organised totally committed defence work from both sides.
There was very little attacking break through from either side due to the outstanding performances in defence from both sides, however towards the end of the first half after some prolonged pressure from Rochdale they crashed over the line for the first try of the game, the kick was missed 0-4 to Rochdale.
This was a kick in the teeth for the Bears but in true Bear fashion these lads very rarely let their heads drop they hit Rochdale with a fantastic response, a great passing move ended with a slick pass to George Green and once this lad is clear there is no stopping him to crash over the try line, the kick was missed making the score 4-4
The Second half gets under way and the feel of this half is that the game is starting to open up with a lot more space for the strong runners to exploit, unfortunately it was Rochdale who crashed over the line in the corner which was hard to take as the Bears are on top in the game, the kick was missed, score 4-8 to Rochdale.
This didn’t affect the Bears and at this point are playing some great rugby and the standard of passing game we are playing at the moment it really is a joy to watch.
With this pressure and the Bears the better team another great move releasing Connor Ashley and the powerful Connor drives through their defence with ease to crash over the line, the kick once more was missed making the score 8-8.
With the game coming to a close unfortunately there was enough time for Rochdale to steal the win with a good passing move resulting in a try, the kick was missed making the final score 8-12 to Rochdale.
Disappointing score line but certainly not the performance as the Bears were the better side who played with great style and also the determination in defence to keep a good side at bay for most of the game. As always a great team performance which is very pleasing to watch the togetherness of the team.
