Under 11s - Rylands v Ashton
The Bears Feast On The Sharks!!!
After the Bears being questionably pipped at the post last week the response today was outstanding, like a Bear that is wounded this set of boys are at their most dangerous!
From the start every player showed great concentration and commitment none more so than George Hopkins and George Green who's organisational skills are second to none. The first try for the Bears were put on the board by George Green this being after a trade mark Jinking run from George Hopkins, this was a day that the two G's would bamboozle the Sharks defence. Super Joe Hobson stepped up to duely convert the kick and make it 0-6 to the Boys.
The Sharks attacked the Bears defence however the Bears tackled like demons none more so than an outstanding Callum Cottington whos tackling technique is ferocious! But the Bears defence wasn't about one player taking up the mantle, this was a tackling as a team. The likes of Joe Hobson having arguably his best game with some fantastic commitment in the tackle, Harry Ireland who as usual was fearless in his work, each player backing each other up and stopping the sharks making any headway.
In the attack Daniel Hill and Connor Ashley made run after run, Connor just going short of the line however George Green soon got his second try which was converted by Harry Ireland, 0-12 to the Bears.
After a break play resumed and the Bears started again where they left off with Josh Denton tackling and up ending the Sharks biggest player!
The Bears went on the attack and again Connor Ashley went on a great run, the boys passing the ball about with aplomb and resulting in Luke Maddock crossing the line, George Hopkins then adding the extras to make it 0-18.
The Sharks never stopped trying and really tested the Bears defence but this was a day when the Bears were resolute and every player from Tom Grundy to Rees Watterson showed outstanding commitment.
In attack the Bears were playing some brilliant rugby with fast plays of the ball, dummy running, off loading and keeping the ball alive, Jinking runs and powerful drives, today they had the lot!
The next try came after another great run from Daniel Hill an off load by Josh Denton only for George Green to once again go over the line. Alex Roughsedge who was fantastic all game booted the conversion to make it 0-24 to the Bears.
The Sharks kept going however the Bears were unstoppable today an George Green added another after some fantastic flowing passing from the Bears to make it 0-28.
The Bears attacked again and after a dummy by Harry Ireland the superb Isaac Wheeler was just held up on the line. The Bears pressed on though and Harry Ireland got his just reward by getting the next try, Callum Cottington making sure of the spoils kicking the conversion to make it 0-34.
Ashton hadn't finished as the clock ticked down and the powerhouse Josh Denton went on a wrecking spree leaving a school of sharks in his wake only to be held at the line.
The Bears resolutely defended the Sharks final attack and a just reward came to George Hopkins who got the Bears final try, George was superb at fullback all match never missing a sharks kick and then gaining huge yards each time with his Jinking runs! Luke Maddock who tackled like a demon all match added the kick to make a very satisfying final scoreline of Ryland Sharks 0 Ashton Bears 40!!
This was a tough day for the Sharks and let's not forget we've all been there. Not for one minute did the Sharks let their heads dip or stop trying so full credit to them. However the Bears were outstanding today and as the coaches pointed out their defence was key and is the foundations for the attacking play.
The boys should be very proud as their parents are very proud of them after a performance like that !!!
