Cheadle Town 1 - 1 Ashton Town
Honour's even at the Park Road Stadium, but Ashton could have won it near the end.
Ashton Town fought for a well earned point tonight in Cheadle, but will look back and feel a little unlucky not too have snatched it.
It wasn’t until the final 10 minutes that Ashton finally came to life. Michael Boyle had his shot cleared off the line, and a massively unlucky bounce prevented Steven Mahoney from smashing in loose ball after Ryan Stamper’s slightest touch directed the ball agonisingly across the goalmouth. Even young substitute Adam Wilkinson got in on the act, with a fierce drive that stung the palms of the keeper.
Ashton had taken the lead on 32 minutes thanks to well taken 12-yard finish from Mikey Cummins. Paul Keenan supplied the killer ball following good work on the right flank. Sadly the lead lasted barely 4 minutes as Ben Brookes equalised for the home side with a 25-yard screamer. The visitor’s were then lucky not to be behind as Brookes again tried his luck with another potent shot, that crashed off the underneath of the bar.
Cheadle were quicker out the blocks after the break, forcing the best out of Ian Lowe in the Ashton goal, as Ashton struggled to find their rhythm. But as the second half went on, Ashton steadily began to get on top, creating all their opportunities towards the end.
So Ashton remain unbeaten in their opening two games as they travel too Rochdale Town on Saturday in what is sure to be another tough game.
More pictures will be uploaded tomorrow afternoon. . . . .
