U16s lose out to Blackburn in Lancs JRC Plate Final 15-18.

The finale to the Junior Rugby Season saw Coach Dean"who are we" Garner face his old club Bury at Aldwinians.
Bury opened the scoring profiting from some indecision to take a 7-0 lead on 5 mins. Ashton responded with a Tom Ainsworth try he converted 2 mins later. Bury fielded a loose penalty kick which didnt make touch with a strong run to touchdown out wide on 11mins a lead which they stretched to 19-7 with another converted try and alarm bells were ringing.
Firm words from Jon and Dean at half time spurred Ashton on and they pulled back to 19-12 with Tom Mackowaik taking the direct route scoring a try near the posts , Tom Ainsworth converting drawing level at 19-19. Bury scored almost directly from the restart but crucially the conversion was narrowly missed the score was 24-19 with 5 mins left.
Ashton restarted and as their opponents began to tire they exerted good scrum pressure to give them further momentum, the referee called last play and when Tom Ainsworth received the ball in midfield he went on an arching run down the touchline packed with supporters and again outstripped the defence to score an equalising try, he had the prescence of mind to use the large in goal area to touch down nearer the posts and give himself a tricky but gettable conversion which he cooly slotted to take the win and the Bowl.
Heartbreak for Bury who played an equal role in a great final but rapture for Ashtonians to win in such dramatic fashion.
U16s Vase Final 22/4/18 @Fylde RUFC
Last weekend the U16s had been on the wrong end of a dramatic final. Having taken a 10-0 lead through tries from Krystian Witecka and Man of the Match Jack Pietsch they let their grip on the game slip Burn came back to 10-8, then to 10-18 with two further tries as Ashton indisicpline saw them get two yellow cards and were down to 13 players. Ashton clawed their way back into the game with a try from Callum Taylor as the carded players returned. Ashton thought they had the winning try , but a forward pass was called and it was not to be. A runners up medal in the Vase was not what the lads were looking for but it definately something to be proud of.
Ashton league winning seconds rounded off their season with a 0-72 defeat to Rochdale "allstars" 4ths unrecognisable from previous teams, sorry we did recognise the big prop who holds the ball like a cigar.Well played both teams.
Ashtons Colts finished off their league with a nineth win in ten beating a strengthened Bury 0-12 with tries from George Guerin and Luke Turner conversion from Travis Powell.
Well done to all teams from U8s, U9s U11s U14s U16s Colts and firsts and Seconds, who have all played some brilliant rugby this year that has been great to watch, thanks guys.
