With the cancellation of one of the friendlies, a combined Ashton team took on Brooklands A at the weekend in what turned out to be a very enjoyable encounter. Ashton’s Iain Pattinson did a fantastic job in attack finishing off several fine moves and deservedly taking the man of the match award. Iain Johnson
lead by example and worked tirelessly for the team and Colin Shockledge
finished the game on a high with a tremendous cut and instant shot that flew past the Brooklands keeper. The youthful Ashton midfield was complimented by the experienced Roger Morton
who’s no nonsense style of play impressed by simply doing the basics well. The defence saw the return of “Pistol” Pete Dobson
who looked like he’d never been away as he put in a few of his trademark checks and vital interceptions to thwart the Brooklands attack. Not to be out done , the Williamson brothers and the evergreen Phil Gordon all put in a great shift along with the lively Marcus Goodlad
. With the mixture of talent on show there were signs that the future is once again looking rosie for the club, with a band of keen, youngster combined with a few older heads it won’t be long before the results turn in Ashton’s favour.
It would be rude not to mention the return of Iain Bate who’s effort is undoubted, he just needs pointing in the right direction!
Many thanks to Brooklands and the referee’s and Captain Banny for making it happen. See you all at Cheds’s memorial games.
