Ashton return to winning ways
Ashton's 1st team returned to winning ways with a comprehensive 21 - 3 victory over Chester with the entire team putting in a fantastic performance.
The first quarter started slowly as Ashton gradually applied pressure to the Chester defence. Ashton's first goal, scored by Ian Pattinson, set the tone; left open on the crease Ian was left with no other option but to score!
However, Chester soon replied through their No. 15. But Iain Johnson soon restored Ashton's lead having cut through the Chester defence and taking a feed from John Haynes, coolly slotted home above the keepers head. Despite a few Ashton players trying to taken on the entire Chester defence alone, the home team built up a 5 - 1 first quarter lead with further goals from Pattison and Alex Brodie (2).
In the second quarter Ashton started to put to put together a more consistent team performance. The defence of Teeps (GK), Williamson, Allen and Goodlad were able to deal with all that Chester could put at them and cleared the ball well, assisted by the running of Joe Leggat, Brodie and in particular John Walton. Ashton extended their lead to 11 - 2 by the end of the quarter with goals from Pattinson (3), Johnson (2) and Brodie (1).
The third quarter was played at a much slower pace as Ashton used a number of set plays. However, Chester left far too much space as Colin Shockledge, Johnson and Brodie all added to Ashton's score to finish the quarter 14 - 3.
Ashton demonstrated some great fast break and man-up lacrosse with tireless running from defence from Walton, Leggat and Charnock, the latter two being rewarded with goals' Charnocks being the last throw of the game! John Haynes suddenly hit form and scored a final quarter hatrick whilst Brodie added a brace to score a double hatrick on his 18th birthday!
