James Burch speaks to Matty Kosylo

Having had two spells at the club, former Robins man Matthew Koyslo first signed at Hurst Cross after leaving Stockport County. His second spell came when he was at Vauxhall motors before re-signing for the club that seems to be very close to his heart.

Having played over fifty appearances for the Robins, Koyslo played a part in last season’s play-off push and has played along some Ashton greats during his two stints. Koyslo spoke of how he joined the club and enjoyed every second possible of his time in Tameside; “My friend 'Xavier Parisi' was at Ashton following his release from Stockport and mentioned me to Danny Johnson, Johnson was interested and it just went from there really.”

Having played and scored in some of United’s greatest games over the past few years, the former Salford City man will never forget his time at the club and what the club in return did for him and his career; “Grantham away one year was a good day. Me and Hogan scored two quality goals and the buzz after was top quality. Buxton at home when we won 4-2 and I scored a goal in front of the Hurst Cross crowd on my debut was a great way to start aswell. Another that sticks in my mind is Chorley at home when we won 3-1 and I scored another goal, those were all good performances.”

Koyslo went on to say; “It was a tough decision to leave following my first spell, obviously Dan gave me good belief in my ability and got me enjoying football again, Craig Robinson looked after me as well to be fair.”

Despite not having the largest crowds, the atmosphere on the terraces at home games when the Robins are on top and in the dressing room is second to none and it is hard not to fall in love with the whole feeling of the club; “The first time round was really a good craic as the group was all good friends, the second spell was very professional which is rare at this level of football but it was a breath of fresh air. It makes a huge difference with results as well, as people don’t treat losing lightly.”

Involved in the 2011/12 season, Ashton finished 12th in a respectable position and it just shows how far the club have come along that during the midfielder’s second spell he helped his team finish 4th. “My fondest memories would be from my first spell in general as I most enjoyed it then. My second spell was more successful reaching the play off final but I wasn't enjoying football at the time and wasn't involved in either game unfortunately.”

After leaving Hyde things didn’t work out but thankfully the Lancashire born player is now happy with his football again; “Joining Hyde after my second spell at the Robins unfortunately didn’t work out, I then had a highly regrettable stint at Droylsden but I'm now at Nantwich where I feel settled again.”

Despite not featuring in either play-off semi-final or the final last year, Koyslo knows what an influence Ashton’s two managers can have on the side, and is hopeful that his former team can go from the nearly men to champions; “Personally Phillo and Ackers have created a really professional atmosphere in terms of players giving 100% every game, and Ashton are doing really really well, and I’m chuffed for them. I'm tipping the side for promotion this time round!”
