Ashton United have won the December UniBond Premier Division Fair Play Award, and donated their prize to hospitalised former player Matt Edgington.

Former Robins winger Edgington, currently with Ramsbottom United, was brutally attacked whilst on a night out at the start of December. He spent some time on the critical list whilst in hospital but has recently been showing signs of recovery.

The club will be presented with a 1 1/2 litre bottle of famous grouse whisky at the home game with Durham City on 9th January.

Ashton United Chairman David Aspinall said 'I have spoken to manager Danny Johnson and on behalf of the players this will be donated to Matt Edgington's family to either donate, raffle off for Matt's rehabilitation, or be donated for a fund raiser for the ward in which he has received so much care.'

The club continue to wish Matt all the very best in his recovery.
