Bradford Park Avenue Match Preview

Ashton face a trip to top of the league Bradford Park Avenue, Written by Daniel Evans

KO: 3:00 PM
VENUE: Horsfall Stadium, Cemetery Road, Bradford, West Yorkshire, BD6 2NG.

Ashton come into this game on the back of a respectable draw against Boston United and a victory over Guiseley. Despite these two positive results the Robins have not won an away game in the league since beating fellow strugglers Hereford 2-0 back in September.
Bradford Park Avenue currently sit top of the Vanarama National League North with only one defeat in their last seven league encounters which has helped them knock Chorley off the top of the league table. Highlights of their terrific run of form include a 6-0 thrashing away to basement club Nuneaton Borough and a hard fought 1-0 home victory over Chorley. Their only loss however was a home fixture and came against Kidderminster, a side which Ashton drew 3-3 with earlier in the season.
Ahead of this fixture Jody Banim stated “We all know it’s going to be a tough game but if we show the same work rate, desire and decision making as we have done in the previous two games I’m confident we’ll have a good opportunity.”

Jake Beesley is our one to watch for this weekend’s fixture. Currently on loan from Salford City, the 21 year old forward seems to have found his footing this season with 9 goals so far in the league. Beesley started his career at Chesterfield in 2014 and spent three years there, making 10 first team appearances as well as a short loan spell in 2016 at, the now defunct club, Shaw Lane where he scored six goals in four games. Then, in 2017 he made a permanent move to Salford City and since then he has played 26 league games and scored two goals for the National League side. During his time at Salford he has had a short loan spell at Boston United and as of the start of this season, a season long loan at Bradford Park Avenue.

At the top of the league, 3rd place Kidderminster host 2nd place Chorley in what surely will take top billing in this round of fixtures. The rest of the teams in the play-off places face tricky away ties. At the other end of the table bottom club Nuneaton Borough face a tough trip to fellow strugglers Alfreton Town whilst Southport, Hereford and Ashton United all face away ties. FC United and Blyth Spartans who, like Ashton, are only three points away from a relegation place will be looking to take advantage of their home fixtures against AFC Telford and Curzon Ashton respectively.
