Ashton United manager Danny Johnson is excited at the prospect of adding a fifth new face to the ranks at Hurst Cross for the forthcoming Evo-Stik Northern Premier League campaign; Chris Lynch signed on the dotted line at Thursday’s training session (12/07/12) to become what Johnson believes is the final component in his quest to assemble a competitive squad to commence the forthcoming season.

A versatile defender who can also play in midfield, 27-year old Lynch is a former Wigan Athletic youth team player - coming through the ranks at the same time as Everton and England defender, Leighton Baines. After being released by the ‘Latics, Lynch made well over 250 appearances for Hyde United between 2004 and 2011, then followed his former manager at Ewen Fields, Neil Tolson, to become a regular fixture at Altrincham last season.

Johnson believes Lynch is the perfect foil for Craig Robinson at centre-half and, as part of the bigger picture, sees the quality and experience of the players he has brought into Hurst Cross this summer giving his squad a fighting chance of competing towards the top end of the table.

Ashton start their pre-season campaign on Saturday (14/07/12) with a visit to AFC Darwen of the North West Counties League – weather permitting!
