The gaffer updates the website on pre-season progress at Hurst Cross.

Manager Danny Johnson has declared himself extremely happy after his squad completed their 4th pre-season training session on Saturday morning. The gaffer told the AUFC website that he intends to announce his new signings along with his choice for captain prior to the first pre-season friendly against Mossley a week on Tuesday.

Danny explains ‘I will be announcing my new signings and my new club captain in the very near future. I am very happy with the players I have brought in and they seem to have settled into the way we do things very nicely. As I have previously stated it was a major blow losing Craig Robinson however, both Luca Havern and Ryan Crowther didn’t figure all that much last season, mainly due to injuries. Both are excellent players and I expect them to do really well at their new club. Jimmy Kelly has decided to move onto pastures new and after a conversation I had with Scott Metcalf it was clear to see Scott wanted to give it a go in front of the 1000’s FC United have following them. So although we have lost a few players, I feel I have replaced them very well indeed and with proven players at this level of football.’

‘I am really looking forward to the games now, the lads have put in an enormous amount of hard work during the early part of pre-season and there seems to be a real sense of wanting to taste success again. From last season’s squad Terry Smith, Alex Frost, Danny Caldecott, Lee Jackson, Josh Rose, Stephen Rose, Ian Bennett, Matty O’Neill, Jon Bathurst, Aaron Burns, Sam Madeley (pictured) and Liam Dawson have all re-signed for the season therefore, we have plenty of continuity within the squad. Ged Murphy will be training with us again on Tuesday following his summer holiday and I see no reason why Ged won’t commit to the club for the new season either.’
