Stamford AFC`s marvellous start to the EVO-STIK League's 2014-15 Premier Division season continued on Bank Holiday Monday with a 2-1 home win against King`s Lynn Town, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

In front of a crowd of 501, the Daniels made it four wins out of four, but had to come back from being a 10th minute goal down when a corner from skipper David Bell was powered home by Sam Brooks.

Stamford levelled four minutes into the second half when Ryan Robbins pulled the ball back for Jordan Smith to equalise. And the home side won it with 20 minutes to go with the lively Robbins again involved as Nabil Shariff made it 2-1.

There are still five other teams yet to taste defeat – with one of those languishing in fifteenth spot!

That`s FC United of Manchester who made it four draws in succession after a 1-1 derby point at Trafford in front of a crowd of 1,106.

James Knowles gave the Reds the lead on the half-hour mark, but once again they were unable to kill a team off after going in front, even having a Jerome Wright spot-kick saved before being made to pay and were made to pay right on half-time when Shelton Payne levelled with a penalty conversion.

Newly-promoted Belper Town mirrored FC United by also drawing their four games. However, Monday`s derby with Matlock Town should have produced a first win for the Nailers as they were in a comfortable position before conceding two late goals.

Regan Eldridge gave the home side the lead after 27 minutes in front of a decent Christchurch Meadow crowd of 475. And then Rob Stevenson quickly doubled that lead within a minute. Danny Holland replied to put the Gladiators back into the game three minutes later, but the Nailers held their 2-1 lead right until the final four minutes. Holland grabbed his second to reduce the deficit to one and then Jason Stokes levelled in time added on at the end of the game.

Skelmersdale United, Curzon Ashton and Halesowen Town are the other sides yet to taste defeat in 2014-15.

Skem edged out relegated Workington AFC, who have now lost three of their four games, courtesy of a 69th minute Connor McCarthy effort.

Newly-promoted Curzon won the eagerly-awaited Tameside derby with Ashton United – the first league meeting in seventeen years.

As was expected, it produced some thrilling stuff for the 507 crowd at the Tameside Stadium as Curzon raced into a 2-0 lead with goals from Ryan Watson after 11 minutes and Jonathan Hunt 15 minutes later. Martin Pilkington pulled Ashton back into the game 10 minutes into the second half, but the turning point came four minutes later as Curzon's Ryan Brooke was hauled down by Kayde Coppin, who was deemed last man, and the winger received a straight red card.

Watson grabbed his second against the ten-man after 68 minutes, but the home side failed to take full advantage and allowed Pilkington to pull a second back for the visitors. But the hosts held on – just - as they were grateful for keeper Hakan Burton preventing Pilkington from completing his hat-trick with a fine on-on-one save.

Halesowen travelled across to Leicestershire to take on Barwell and returned with all three points. The Canaries are yet to find a win, and were beaten in this one when the experienced Iyesden Christie bagged the only goal on the hour-mark.

Whitby Town still prop up the rest of the division, but at least got off the mark with a point from a 2-2 draw at Croft Park in a feisty derby against Blyth Spartans.

Robbie Dale, celebrating his 400th game for Spartans, gave his side a 42nd minute lead from the penalty spot. But on 58 minutes Steve Snaith levelled and the same player gave the Seasiders a 78th minute lead. Dale grabbed his second to level matters three minutes later and Whitby held on, despite having Kevin Burgess sent-off three minutes from time for a foul on Danny Maguire.

Now managerless Witton Albion secured a second win of the campaign by beating Marine AFC 3-1 at Wincham Park.

Danny Andrews gave Albion a good start with the opening goal after 14 minutes. But they had to wait until 20 minutes from the end before Iain Howard doubled their lead, and then Jon Dawson made the game safe with a third five minutes later, although Aaron Burns did manage to reduce the arrears from the spot in the 81st minute.

Nantwich Town recovered from Saturday`s defeat at Stamford to comprehensively beat newly-promoted Ramsbottom United 4-1 at the Riverside.

But the Dabbers had to come back from being a 21st minute Jon Robinson goal down to win, thanks to second half goals from Alex Meaney after 52 minutes, Vinny Mukendi seven minutes later, Mark Winslade just past the hour-mark and then an Adam Pepper penalty in the last minute.

Grantham Town were the day`s other winners, winning 4-2 at Westfield Lane against Frickley Athletic.

They too had to come from behind after Gavin Allott gave the hosts a sixth minute lead. Sam Puricoe equalised in the 18th minute and then Liam Dickens put the Gingernbreads in front in the 33rd minute. Alex Simmons eventually made it 3-1 with 18 minutes remaining, with Allott pulling a second back eight minutes later to briefly give the home side hope that Jordan Hempenstall ended three minutes later.

Buxton shared the spoils for the third time in four games at Silverlands against Ilkeston FC. Callum Chettle – son of former Nottingham Forest defender Steve – gave the visiting Robins a 35th minute lead that Jamie Green cancelled out nine minutes into the second half.

Despite almost constant second half pressure, Stourbridge were frustrated by an organised Rushall Olympic team and had to settle for a point from a goalless draw at Amblecote after Richard Sneekes' Pics held firm for a share of the spoils.
