Saturday could prove to be a pivotal one in the race for the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's Premier Division title, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Skelmersdale United still possess a seven-point lead at the top of the table but they suffered a home mauling by an impressive young Ilkeston FC side, while Curzon Ashton returned to second spot after beating Matlock Town to leap-frogg Buxton, who were held to a home draw by Workington AFC.

Skem actually got off to a great start when Scott Bakkor gave them a first-minute lead. But Joe Maguire on 32 minutes, Ashley Hunter three minutes later and Kieran Wallace on 46 minutes turned the game in the Robins` favour, with Kane Richards rounding off a terrific win for Kevin Wilson's side, who are now sixth, on 67 minutes.

Curzon took an hour to break Matlock down at the Tameside Stadium through Alex Brown. But they added a second from Tom Eckersley on 72 minutes and made sure with a third from the penalty spot by Sam Walker four minutes from time.

Buxton led through Shaun Tuton`s 63rd minute effort at Silverlands against Workington, who grabbed a last-minute equaliser through Matty Tymon to share the spoils.

Ramsbottom United moved into fourth place after they beat Grantham Town at the Riverside, while FC United of Manchester were beaten at Amblecote by Stourbridge.

Stefan Bilyk gave the Gingerbreads an 11th minute lead but Dominic Smalley eventually levelled for Rammy eight minutes into the second half and then Jordan Hulme on 64 minutes and a last-gasp Jon Robinson effort, sealed the home side's victory.

Kayelden Brown gave the Glassboys a 26th minute lead against the Reds, with Kris Ramsey-Dickson doubling that eight minutes before the break. Tom Greaves reduced the arrears with 10 minutes to go but the home side held on for the points.

At the opposite end of the table, bottom markers Belper Town suffered a disappointing 4-1 defeat at the hands of Ashton United at Christchurch Meadow, but second-bottom Witton Albion enjoyed a 5-2 Wincham Park win over ninth-placed Ashton United.

Andy Pearson after 23 minutes and Mark Winslade 0n 36 minutes gave the Dabbers a 2-0 half-time lead at Belper. Iain Howard`s penalty 11 minutes into the second period virtually ensured the points for the Dabbers, despite player boss Jon Froggatt`s immediate response, as Steve Jones made it 4-1 with 2 minutes left.

Danny Andrews netted a hat-trick in Witton`s crucial win. He scored in the 53rd, 56th and 78th minutes – the third from the spot – as all seven goals came in the second half.

Zac Corbett sandwiched one on 61 minutes and Joe Shaw made it a nap hand in the final minute, with Chris Baguley on 63 minutes and Dale Johnson on 74 replying for Ashton.

Blyth Spartans moved out of the bottom four after a good 3-2 Croft Park win over play-off chasing King`s Lynn Town.

Danny Maguire scored the only goal of the opening half in the 12th minute to give the hosts the lead. Robbie Dale doubled that from the spot 10 minutes into the second half and Jarrett Rivers added a third on 69 minutes. But George Thomson two minutes later and Gregg Smith 3 minutes after that made for a nervy finale.

Blyth`s win was not good news for Trafford and Marine AFC, who were both beaten to join Witton and Belper in the bottom four.

Kristian Green after 65 minutes and then Rob Thompson-Brown four minutes from the end earned Halesowen Town the points at Trafford, while Bradley Riley`s goal 17 minutes from time sealed a vital home win for another of the strugglers, Frickley Athletic, against the Mariners.

Stamford AFC`s final game at their old Wothorpe Road ground attracted a bigger-than-normal crowd of 410 who saw them beat Rushall Olympic 3-0, courtesy of goals from Ryan Robbins after just two minutes, Dan Lawlor just before half-time and then Nabil Shariff, who became the stadium`s last ever scorer on the hour-mark.

Alex Thompson`s early ninth minute effort proved enough for Barwell at home against Whitby Town in the day`s other game.
