After being beaten on penalties by Altrincham in the Integro League Cup on Tuesday night, Ashton will be looking to stop high-flying Shaw Lane at Hurst Cross this weekend. The visitors currently sit in 3rd place level on points with league leaders Altrincham and they will be looking to take advantage of Ashton’s lack of consistency. The Robins are struggling to build a sequence of results with Ashton winning two and losing two of their last four games.
Jody Banim told Ashton United TV following the disappointing defeat to Altrincham that the wins over Mickleover and Warrington may have “papered over the cracks” when Ashton lifted themselves to sixth in the table. But Banim has called upon his players to show the same character and commitment that dispatched Warrington at Hurst Cross two weeks ago.
“We’re still in the mix, it’s not all doom and gloom and we are more than capable of beating Shaw Lane on Saturday. The lads will be fully focused on that and they will be made aware of their responsibilities. We’re that up and down at this moment at time, I wouldn’t be surprised if we put in a great performance, we just need that consistency.”
Last time out Shaw Lane were knocked out of the Integro League Cup by Cleethropes Town after being beaten 5-3 on home soil.
Shaw Lane have enjoyed a meteoric rise since starting life in the South Yorkshire Amateur League just seven years ago. The Ducks have achieved five promotions in that time and are on course to make that six as they sit third and level on points with league leaders Altrincham. The Ducks still on a high on the back of reaching the first round of the FA Cup last weekend after they defeated Barrow 2-1. Shaw Lane have been awarded a televised clash with League Two side Mansfield Town at Sheerien Park.
Prices are as follows:
£10 for Adults
£6 for Concessions
Under 14’s are free with a paying adult.
