Ashton United has teamed up with the local branch of B&Q at Snipe Business Park, Ashton-under-Lyne to introduce an aluminium can recycling scheme. Both the club and the store will be encouraging fans and customers to collect aluminium drinks cans and bring them along, either to the football club on match days or the B&Q store on any day of the week, to have them recycled.

General Manager of B&Q Ashton under Lyne, Alan Sneddon said, "My staff and customers, together with neighbouring businesses, have all embraced this idea and are busily collecting cans from family and friends. We hope to be able to recycle huge numbers of cans. There is a collection point at the store for everyone to bring in their contribution"

Steve Hobson Vice Chairman of Ashton United said, "The club is delighted to be able to play our part in this community initiative. We are hoping to encourage people across the borough to get behind a project that will benefit everyone in the long term, and we are exploring the potential to offer rewards to groups and supporters who are collecting the cans."

B&Q will be promoting the recycling scheme to their customers, over 10,000 per week, via flyers attached to till receipts, and Ashton United will be using their broad social media presence to contact their 6500 twitter followers, Facebook followers, and website membership, asking them to mobilise family and friends.
