Trafford next for the Robins, Written by Daniel Evans

TRAFFORD FC VS ASHTON UNITED FC
DATE: SATURDAY 21ST JULY 2018
KO: 3:00PM
VENUE: SHAWE VIEW, M41 5DL.
Evo-Stik NPL West side Trafford FC are next up for Jody Banim’s side. Trafford’s last pre-season outing was a 2-1 home victory over fellow Vanarama National League North side Chorley with Declan Rydings and Aaron Burns scoring for the home side. Ashton also come into this game on the back of a victory, with the Robins prevailing 3-2 in a trip to Cheshire side Runcorn Linnets.

ONE TO WATCH:
Our one to watch for this encounter will be a very familiar face to Robins fans having spent three seasons at Hurst Cross earlier in his career. Aaron Burns started his career at Manchester United as a trainee but unfortunately got released, since then however he has made himself quite a name in non-league even getting voted into the top 30 of all-time greatest players in the history of the Evo-Stik Premier League. During his illustrious career Burns has taken in spells at Altrincham, Droylsden, Northwich Victoria and Marine amongst others. But to Ashton fans he will be most known for his first three season spell in the early 2010’s in which he won top goalscorer for three seasons running and even won a Northern Premier League Challenge Cup along the way. He has now found his way to Trafford in which he currently has 35 goals in 66 appearances for the Manchester based side.

LAST TIME WE MET
The last time these two sides met in a league encounter was back in 2014 with Ashton prevailing the winners thanks to a late goal. Trafford opened the scoring in the first half thanks to left back Andy Smart who squeezed the ball into a goal following a corner kick. Richard Bennett equalised for Ashton early in the second half, firing on the turn after receiving a well weighted pass from Kayde Coppin. With both teams in search for a winner it was down to Kayde Coppin, who find the ball out wide in the 92nd minute and raced past numerous defenders before hammering home the winner to send the Ashton fans back home a happy bunch.
