Ashton back at Hurst Cross
ASHTON UNITED VS WORKINGTON FC
DATE: TUESDAY 26TH SEPTEMBER 2017
KO: 7:45PM
VENUE: Hurst Cross Stadium, Surrey Street, Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, OL6 8DY
Ashton come into this game on the back of a two consecutive away victories against Nantwich Town and Marine respectively. These two wins along with the solid start to the season mean that the robin’s currently sit just outside the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League play offs in 6th place.
Workington however, come into this game on the back of two consecutive defeats and currently sit in 18th place in the league
Manager Jody Banim will have been pleased with the start the team have made to the 2017/18 season, sitting only one point outside the playoffs, and will have quite a bit of a headache on his hands when it comes to team selection with all the squad performing well when they have been called upon.
Jody Banim has gone on record to say that he is “optimistic going into every game at this moment in time” so an exciting game should be on the cards. Jody also said that “The squad should be full of confidence coming of the back of three consecutive league wins”

ONE TO WATCH:
Scott Allison is the man we’ve picked out as the one to watch for Workington, this seasons current leading goal scorer for the reds with 4 goals including a hat trick at home to Altrincham. Signed from Cumbrian side Penrith in 2013 on the back of a 20 goal season, Allison has proved himself to be a vital part of Workington’s squad. He was the clubs highest scorer in the 2015/16 season but injuries limited his appearances last season. The Workington fans have been known to describe Allison as a pacey winger who can score goal, being able to change the game in a moment and also Allison has been described as one of if not the clubs best attacking player.

PREVIOUSLY AT HURST CROSS;
The last time the Robins faced Workington, the robins fell to a 2-1 defeat back on the 4th April 2017. Workington opened the scoring after only three minutes, courtesy of a Josh Calvert header. However, it didn’t take long for Ashton to get back into the tie with a Matty Chadwick strike in the 6th minute levelling the scores. It was a somewhat controversial goal that won it for Workington on the 74th minute. A header from Sam Smith was deemed to have crossed the line by the linesman however it took a few moments for the referee to give the goal. Ashton tried their best to grab a late equaliser but it just wasn’t to be.
