Ashton Lift Second Pre-Season Trophy
Ashton United won their second pre-season trophy with an excellent performance against Blue Square North side Droylsden at Hurst Cross.
The match itself saw Ashton produce an excellent display against opposition from a division above. They produced the best chance of the first half, Jonathon Bathurst playing in Ian Bennett who struck a sweet half volley that was brilliantly tipped over by Paul Phillips in the Droylsden goal.
In the second half former Ashton Captain Craig Robinson had to be at his best to deny Chris Amadi with a flying block that prevented the former Chorley striker from opening his Robins account.
Droylsden then took the lead with one of their few shots on target, another former Robin Kieran Kilheeney with a calm finish into the bottom corner.
This was harsh on Ashton though who had been the better side until that point, but they soon equalised when Peter Wright was played through and he slotted home with ease to make it 1-1.
Ashton then got their deserved winner thanks to an excellent cross from Sam Madeley and a bullet strike into the top corner from Amadi to secure another pre-season prize.
New Captain Danny Caldecott accepted the honours as United maintained their 100% pre-season record after three games.
