Hyde ran out convincing winners in the last pre-season friendly thus reversing the score line from the last time the two sides met. With several regulars missing it was always likely to be a tough task for the Robins and it got harder after just 6 minutes as Olapayde’s ball across the back line was miss controlled by Aaron Chalmers allowing Chris Sutherland to nip in and win a penalty which was confidently knocked home by Pete Boyle.
Boyle could have registered again as a pass picked him out and he cut inside on to his left foot before clipping the left hand post and as the interval approached Ashton thought they had equalised as Jack Dyche flicked a pass over a defender and volleyed home only to see the linesman’s flag raised.
The hosts continued to dominate after the break and a poor clearance by Dom Smalley saw Boyle set up Stockdill needing a decent save from Carnell but with 13 minutes remaining Janni Lipka’s pass put sub David Brown through on the replacement keeper with the rebound being knocked home by Adam Baker.
Things got worse for the visitors as Baker could have scored again but placed his left foot effort wide of the target but shortly afterwards Raheem’s ball over the top put Brown clear to lob home the third and the scoring concluded as Brown’s cross saw Simon Woodford’s attempted clearing header go straight to Baker who tapped home from almost on the goal line.
